Vice President Kashim Shettima has left the nation’s capital, Abuja, bound for Belem, Brazil, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference. The high-profile summit, widely known as COP30, is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, November 6.
The conference will bring together global leaders, policymakers, and environmental experts to deliberate on urgent climate issues, including greenhouse gas reduction, sustainable development, and international climate finance. Nigeria’s participation underscores its commitment to tackling climate change and advancing environmental sustainability on the global stage.
In his role as Nigeria’s representative, Vice President Shettima is expected to engage in discussions on international collaboration, share the country’s climate initiatives, and explore strategies for enhancing resilience against the impacts of climate change.
The UN Climate Change Conference serves as a critical platform for nations to review progress on emission targets, negotiate new agreements, and foster partnerships aimed at achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. Nigeria’s delegation, led by the Vice President, signals the country’s determination to remain an active participant in global climate action.
As the summit unfolds in Brazil, attention will be focused on the commitments and proposals emerging from participating nations, with hopes that meaningful agreements will be reached to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
