Former British and Commonwealth Super Lightweight Boxing Champion, Peter Oboh, has urged Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, to adopt a winning mentality if they are to achieve lasting success on the international stage.
According to Valid9jablog News, Oboh emphasized that talent alone is not enough for the team to consistently compete at the highest level. “Nigeria has gifted players, but without the right mindset and structure, we will continue to fall short when it matters most,” he said.
Oboh pointed out that mental strength, discipline, and a trophy-focused approach are critical for transforming the Super Eagles into a team capable of dominating major tournaments. He believes that a shift in both mentality and organizational support can create an environment where Nigerian footballers are prepared to seize opportunities and perform under pressure.
“The players need to start thinking like champions. It’s about more than just playing well; it’s about aiming to lift trophies and leaving a lasting legacy for the country,” Oboh added.
The former boxing champion also stressed that structural improvements, including better training facilities, sports management, and support systems, are essential to building a consistently competitive national team. Without these changes, he warned, the Super Eagles may continue to struggle in international competitions despite their abundant talent.
