NAFDAC Condemns Attack on Officials at Lagos Trade Fair

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has strongly condemned the assault on its enforcement officials during an official operation at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex on Thursday, October 30.

According to sources within the agency, the officials were conducting routine inspections to ensure compliance with regulations on food, drugs, and other controlled products when they were reportedly attacked by unidentified individuals. The agency described the incident as “unacceptable and a threat to public safety and regulatory enforcement.”

NAFDAC emphasized its commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining strict adherence to health and safety standards, warning that any attempt to intimidate or harm its personnel would not deter its regulatory efforts. The agency called on law enforcement authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement, NAFDAC reiterated the importance of cooperation between traders, consumers, and regulatory bodies, stressing that such attacks undermine public confidence in safe food and drug practices. The agency assured the public that it would continue to carry out its duties and enforce compliance across markets nationwide.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by regulatory bodies in maintaining order and enforcing standards in busy commercial hubs like Lagos, where trade activity is often intense and highly competitive.
